We are at a critical point in determining the future of the performing arts in Sacramento and need your support. On Tuesday, October 18, at 6:00 PM, the Sacramento City Council is scheduled to decide whether to approve funding for the long awaited Community Center Theater transformation, and we need you behind us!
The City’s planned improvements for Memorial Auditorium and Community Center Theater will dramatically enhance the acoustic and viewing experience, utilize world-class technology and bring facility amenities into the 21st century. There is unanimous support for this elegant and efficient plan from all primary user groups, including Sacramento Philharmonic & Opera, Sacramento Ballet, California Musical Theatre, Sacramento Choral Society & Orchestra and Sacramento Speakers Series.
Proposed improvements include:
- Dramatically redesigned exterior featuring lots of glass and L Street marquee
- Stunning and elegant interior
- Significantly expanded lobby and box office with 50% more space
- Dozens of new restrooms
- State-of-the-art sound and acoustics
- New seats on all levels
- Additional and more spacious aisles
- Enhanced theatrical lighting and rigging system
- Compliant with ADA requirements
- New dressing rooms and talent support facilities
To move forward, the Sacramento City Council must adopt a resolution to proceed with approval of funding for the plan as outlined above, and is scheduled to vote on this matter on October 18.
